What’s the matter?(第二课时)
Teaching Content:
 The second period of Fun with English Book 4A Unit 9  
including Part B and C
Teaching Purpose:
1. Knowledge purpose: (1) Enable the students to use the six words about the state: cold, hot, tired, ill, thirsty, hungry  
 
                    (2)Key sentences: What’s the matter?

2. Ability Purpose: Cultivate the students’ listening , speaking , reading and writing abilities
3. Morality purpose: (1) Enable the students to cooperate well with each other
                  (2) Enable the students to be interested in learning English and love the language
                  (3) Enable the students to care and help others
Teaching difficult points:
How to use the new words correctly.
How to help others flexibly with the sentence: Here’s …for you.
    
Teaching preparation:
      1. 45 picture cards about 4 kinds: food, drink, clothes, article,
      2. 4 signs with different words on them: food, drink, clothes, article
      3. some matches and an apron
 
Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Warm up and Revision
a.     Greetings
T: Hello, boys and girls. How are you today? I am your new English teacher. My name is Sunny. Who can say hello to me?
S:..
T: We have four groups. They are Food, Drink, Clothes and Article.
Let’s play a game “Around the world”. Let’s have a competiton between you and your deskmate. Look at the card, say quickly. The quicker one can go on to have the competion with the following two students.
[四组选组长根据老师的示范要求来组织游戏。单词卡片是本课对话要用的已知词汇,包括四类:食物cake, hamburger,饮料water, juice,衣物coat, sweater,生活用品fan, sofa .游戏目的是在轻松快乐的氛围中帮助学生回忆复习这四类单词。]
b.     Tell a story
T: Boys and girls. Do you like stories? I have one to tell you.
T: It is winter, a snowy day. The little match is wearing a dress, so she is very cold. She has nothing to eat. She is hungry. She has nothing to drink, she is thirsty. She is walking in the street selling matches for the whole day, she is very tired. To make it even worse, She’s got a cold and a stomachache, so she is ill. How poor the little match girl is!
[课件呈现卖火柴小女孩的动画,教师开始讲故事,用肢体语言帮助学生理解。]
Step 2 Presentation & Practice
a.     Show the 6 pictures and practice
T: What’s the matter?

[CAI呈现卖火柴小女孩六种状态的图片,师生问答,然后生生问答.板书,领读单词.学生跟读时要求动作表演该单词。]
b.     Practice the sentence: Here’s … for you.
T: The little match girl is thirsty, hungry, tired, cold and ill. Can you find anything in the room to help her? Who would like to be the little match girl?
S1: I can.
Ss: What’s the matter?
S1: I’m hungry.
S2: Here’s a … for you.
[一生扮演卖火柴的小女孩,学生将手上的图片给the little match girl呈现并操练新句型Here’s … for you.]
c. T:Thanks for all the things you gave her.She is not cold, hungry. thirsty. or tired.She misses her grandmother very much. She wants to light the 5 matches to find her granny. Let’s help her.
[课件演示点亮火柴,弹出任务让学生完成.]
① Act and guess
T: Look carefully.[动作表演热]  
   What’s the matter?
S: You are hot.
T: Each group one student come to the front please.
   I’ll show you the word, the others act, and you four guess,please. The quickest one can get one point.
② Listen and guess
T: Let’s light the second one.
   Listen carefully,

[分别用课件演示刮风,喝水,肚子饿等声音,设置情境,让学生猜.]
③ Hot potato
T: Let’s come to the next match.
   Here’re some pictures. What’s the matter?
S: He’s hot.
T: Can you give me some advice?
S: Here’s a cup of cold water for you.
S: Here’s a fan for you.
T: Good job. Each group has a big piece of paper.
Please write your advice down, when I say “Hot potato is going on.”You must pass your paper to the next one.

④ Work in pairs
T: Let’s light the next one. It’s time to work in pairs. Can you read Picture 1 and 2?

[学生先读对话,然后编对话,层次由低到高.]

Step 4 Homework
a.    Write the dialogue on P71 and 72.Try to remember the new words and sentences.
